The Issues

Iowa State Capitol

1

Invest in Mental Health

In Iowa, the need for investment in mental healthcare has never been more critical. With limited access to mental health services, many Iowans face significant barriers in seeking and receiving the care they desperately need. I have seen this first hand with my experience as a public defender and Iowans deserve better. I am determined to secure more accessible and affordable mental healthcare for all Iowans, especially right here in District 28.

2

Fund our
Public Schools

The chronic underfunding of public schools has been a problem in Iowa for many years. The voucher legislation has made things worse by siphoning public dollars from public schools and giving them to private institutions. These private institutions do not have to accept and educate all children. My husband and I have three kids in public schools. It is so incredibly important to us that we properly support our schools so that every child has a chance at a bright, successful future.

3

Protect Reproductive Freedom

Protecting bodily autonomy and reproductive rights is essential for ensuring the fundamental freedoms and rights of individuals. At its core, the right to make decisions about one's own body is a cornerstone of personal liberty and dignity. Decisions that should be made between a woman and her doctor are now being made in the state house. It's all politics, and Iowans deserve better than that, for the health and wellbeing of our communities.

4

Lower Costs for Iowans

Too many Iowans are struggling to make ends meet. Wages aren’t keeping up with the rising costs of healthcare, food costs, child care, and utility bills. While we recognize the state legislature cannot control all the ups and downs of the national economy, we can take action to help lower costs and reduce living expenses for Iowans. Expand access to affordable child care, lower taxes for working families instead of more handouts to big corporations and create more affordable housing options.

5

Enact Common Sense Gun Policy

Enacting common-sense gun legislation is a vital step in protecting our communities and kids across Iowa. By implementing measures such as background checks, closing loopholes in existing laws, and promoting responsible gun ownership, we can prevent firearms from falling into the wrong hands. These actions not only respect the Second Amendment but also prioritize public safety and ensure that individuals with dangerous intentions are unable to access firearms.

6

Bring Iowans Together

Our country is more polarized than ever, and it feels like people are moving farther apart, stuck in their political corners. But we have to come together if we want to rebuild our communities, protect our democracy, and make real progress. It starts with our leadership. We need to elect leaders who are passionate about serving their communities and dedicated to making things happen for the good of all.
